12 Sep Students In Business Sponsored by SACK Co.
The Dublin-Laurens Chamber, local schools, and The Sack Company have joined forces to develop a unique career training program, Students In Business, for students in the Career, Technical, Agriculture Education programs in the area high schools.
Select students from the various programs will spend the day visiting businesses related to their field of study. The program is very structured with a goal of giving them insight into:
- Career paths available
- Skills needed
- The education needed
- The variety of jobs/professions in various businesses
- Salary expectations
- Job market now and in the future
- What working in these businesses is like
- What professionals think they can do to prepare themselves
The Sack Company decided to sponsor this event with the students of Dublin in mind. It’s no secret that the construction industry as a whole is facing a massive labor shortage. New construction is growing and the industry just doesn’t currently have the skilled craftsmen to keep up with the demand.
A survey done last year by the Association of General Contractors shows that 86% of contractors are having trouble filling skilled trade positions.
We want to be sure that the students know about this career path in construction by inviting them to our offices and shops to show off how rewarding the construction industry can actually be – and that is exactly what this program is doing.
Sponsoring Students for Business is just one of the ways that The Sack Company is continuing to be a part of the solution to the workforce issue and to show our continued support of the construction programs in high schools.
