Mechanical Apprentice – Commercial
Mechanical Apprentices are responsible for working and learning under the direction of experienced Superintendents, Foremen, and Mechanics
Reports to: Mechanical Superintendent, Mechanical Foreman, Sheet Metal Mechanic, Pipefitter, HVAC Technician
Duties & Responsibilities
The Apprentice is to assist Mechanics with the prefabrication and installation of commercial mechanical equipment and systems, including heating, venting, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The Apprentice will assist in material handling activities throughout the jobsite. The Apprentice will keep a clean work area and maintain good condition of tools. The Apprentice will adhere to all workplace safety procedures outlined in the Safety Handbook. The Apprentice is expected to adhere to all company and site-specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. The Apprentice may be assigned other duties as required
Qualifications
The Apprentice must be enrolled or registered to enroll in The Sack CompanyMechanicalApprenticeship program. The Apprentice should have at least a basic working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and construction methods. The Apprentice must be able to work productively under both heavy and limited supervision. The Apprentice must have a high school diploma or equivalent level of education
Working Conditions
The Apprentice must be able and willing to work in cold and hot temperature conditions. The Apprentice must be willing and able to travel to assigned jobsite locations. The Apprentice must be able and willing to work atypical schedules necessary to complete assigned construction project(s), including nights and weekends
Tools Used
Sheet Metal hand tools, double cuts, drills, brakes, shears, skillsaws, concrete saws, band saws, torches, welders, lock forming machines, recovery machines, refrigerant gauges, ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and other machines and equipment used in the HVAC trade
Protective Equipment
Safety glasses, safety-toe rated shoes, hard hat, verified appropriate gloves for task, hearing protection, safety harness, braces, respirators, and other equipment as required
