Sheet Metal Mechanics are responsible for the fabrication, assembly, repair, and installation of heating, air conditioning, and ventilation units, equipment, and systems according to all applicable codes, specifications, and plans

Reports to: Mechanical Superintendent, Mechanical Foreman

Duties & Responsibilities

The Mechanic is responsible for the completion of mechanical construction tasks in all phases of commercial or industrial applications. The Mechanic must be able to work with limited to no direct on-site supervision. The Mechanic is expected to be able to maintain a crew of limited size for prefabrication, layout, and installation of construction materials necessary to complete tasks as dictated by plans, specifications, and codes. The Mechanic is responsible for the general safety of all team members and subcontractors, including their own well-being, by adherence, enforcement, and promotion of workplace safety procedures outlined in the Safety Handbook. The Mechanic is expected to adhere to all company and site-specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. The Mechanic may be assigned other duties as required

Qualifications

The Mechanic must be proficient in performing a variety of mechanical construction tasks, including but not limited to: layout of systems, installation of duct, fabrication, sealing penetrations, cutting, welding, brazing, soldering, bonding, assembling components, installing refrigerant lines, and maintenance/repair of sheet metal components. The Mechanic should have experience working with fire dampers, volume dampers, duct heaters, and grille installations. The Mechanic must be proficient in reading and comprehending plumbing blueprints and specifications in addition to any plans associated with coordination and installation activities of each task. The Mechanic should have extensive knowledge of building materials and methods of installation. The Mechanic must be able to perform all duties expected in a fast-paced mechanical construction environment that requires extended periods of standing, squatting, climbing, heavy lifting, and operation of equipment associated with commercial and industrial mechanical construction. The Mechanic must have a strong familiarity with all local, state, and federal codes associated with the mechanical trade and all applicable OSHA regulations

Working Conditions

The Mechanic must be able and willing to work in cold and hot temperature conditions. The Mechanic must be willing and able to travel to assigned jobsite locations. The Mechanic must be able and willing to work atypical schedules necessary to complete assigned construction project(s), including nights and weekends

Tools Used

Sheet Metal hand tools, double cuts, drills, brakes, shears, skillsaws, concrete saws, band saws, torches, welders, lockforming machines, recovery machines, refrigerant gauges, ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and other machines and equipment used in the HVAC trade

Protective Equipment

Safety glasses, safety-toe rated shoes, hard hat, verified appropriate gloves for task, hearing protection, safety harness, braces, respirators, ground fault protection, and other equipment as required
